The STAR Moodle, a digital platform available 24/7, provides resources and information exchange for Cultural Arts Coordinators.    The moodle also serves as a vehicle to connect partnering districts for the Exploratory Enrichment COSER and houses Rockland BOCES forms used by Cultural Arts Coordinators in the cultural arts process.   Participants in the moodle can share  and seek information on cultural arts programming through various forums on the Moodle.   The STAR moodle is supported by Rockland Teachers’ Center.

Application of the Blended Learning Platform for Moodle.

This course is an introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is a field dedicated to the application of behavioral principals and procedures. We will cover basic principles, such as reinforcement, stimulus control, and extinction, and we will address how these principles can be used within the classroom to yield academic and behavioral success for students in general and special education classrooms.


This course will train teacher leaders to become experts in the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) in K-6 English Language Arts (ELA) while maximizing their relevance to teachers’ Annual Profession Performance Review (APPR). Participants will use available resources to create and evaluate the quality, rigor and alignment of their lessons and assessments to the CCLS in ELA. Furthermore, this course will address strategies/methodologies of coaching fellow teachers.

This online course is for those who want to design thematic teaching units that will spark the interest of all students. Participants will explore the key components of curriculum planning, and design their own standards-based curriculum maps using Rubicon Atlas, an online mapping tool for teachers. With frequent collaboration and feedback, participants will know what works, and what needs work, before ever meeting their students.

The research-based strategies and skills utilized in this online course will enable teachers to help students build effective relationships, and work through life's challenges in constructive and ethical ways. Using Google Tools for Collaboration, Enrichment and Differentiation of Instruction.

In this course we will collaborate online, use Google Docs, look at Google Earth and build models in Google SketchUp. 

We will work as a group and individually to explore, practice and create materials that can be used in the classroom.

This course is appropriate for teachers, support personnel (guidance, social workers, and/or psychologists), administrators, and parents.

This course outlines the structure and function of the skeletal system. A brief comparison of endoskeletons and exoskeletons is provided with an emphasis on the human skeletal system. The activity provided describes how bones can be used to determine the height of individuals.


This course outlines the structure and function of the circulatory system. A comparison of closed and open circulatory systems is provided with a focus on the structure and function of the human heart.  Two activities are provided, how to dissect a sheep’s heart and how to measure heart rate. These activities can be modified for use in elementary, middle and high school classes.

 


This course outlines the structure and function of the respiratory system. A brief comparison of respiratory systems of different animals is provided with a concentration on the human respiratory system. The activity provided can be adapted for use in elementary, middle and high school classes and allows students to measure the capacity of their lungs.


 Temperature has numerous effects at the molecular level. Through discussion of kinetic energy, the effects of temperature on various properties in all three states of mater.

 


Students will explore chemical reactions. This will include first identifying and making observations that indicate a chemical reaction is occurring. The process of bond breaking and bond making to convert reactants to products during a chemical reaction will be discussed. Students will also see that chemical reactions must be balanced and matter can never be created or destroyed.


Students will be able to explain solubility of salts on a molecular level. Understanding of ionic charge, ionic bonding, the dissolving process, molecular polarity, and intermolecular forces will employed to explain the solubility of salts in polar solvents such as water.
