    This course has been developed for participants who want to further integrate the SMART Board into their curriculum. The class will focus on creating interactive games in Notebook to engage student learning.  Participants will create a collection of interactive SMARTBoard games. Students will enjoy participating in these collaborative, fun and engaging experiences, while incorporating curriculum. Assimilate your content inside a game show is a great way to engage your students. Students learn best when the content is relevant to them and when they can connect new learning with old.  Students like games because they have fun and learn at the same time, and teachers like them because games help build students’ academic confidence, as well as social and problem-solving skills. Grab your curriculum and jump right in participants will be provided step by step instructions to create SMARTBoard games.  In addition, research resources available to utilize Educational Games for use with the SMARTBoard.  This course uses a hands-on approach to creating educational games, and the practical aspects of evaluating and implementing games for teaching and learning.  Educators can now gain leverage by using students’ interests in digital culture to extend their learning and keep them engaged. Participants are will create a portfolio of content drive game lessons. In addition designed teacher created  templates that can be easily adapted to their classroom needs.Promethean Board users welcome, lessons and skills can be converted into Promethean lessons.

With the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, you’ll save time and increase success for every one of your students. The SMART Board can be used to differentiate lessons and address a variety of learning styles. Discover how to develop lesson plans that make use of this fabulous tool and motivate 21st century students. This course will show how the SMART Board interactive whiteboard can have a significant impact on how we can teach and how children learn. This exciting technology can bring enjoyment to both teaching and learning. This hands-on course is designed for both the teacher who has been using the SMART Board for a while and the novice SMART Board user. You will learn to use SMART Board features efficiently, utilize techniques to effectively add structure, organization, style, interactivity and rich media to your lessons. In this class, participants will select one unit of study in a specific content area, determine specific outcomes for the unit and prepare activities, using the SMARTboard to prepare students to meet stated outcome goals.Participants will explore ways to differentiate instruction, using the SMARTboard and will create a final presentation for the class, explaining how the activities, created in class, affected student performance on unit assessments.One major focus of the course will be utilizing many resources available on the Internet such as virtual manipulative. The second focus will be on developing SMART Notebook activities for use in the classroom to enhance student learning. Promethean Board users welcome, lessons and skills can be converted into Promethean lessons.

    The Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition (School Coalition) is a collaborative of Rockland schools, organizations and businesses with a shared vision to have the healthiest students, staff and school communities in the nation. To achieve this, the School Coalition supports the Coordinated School Health model by being the link for schools to the community at large with all of its resources.  The School Coaltion is closely affiliated with the Steps to a Healthier Rockland initiative.

    Collaboration between schools, organizations and local businesses enhances communication, cooperatioin, sharing of resources and problem solving, leading to improved vitality for residents.  The School Coaltion meets 4 times per year and has two workgroups.  The workgroups focus on increasing awareness and skills among community member and schools in:

    • The protective effect of the family meal (Protective Factors Workgroup, Eat Together! campaign)
    • How to create healthier schools (Professional Development Workgroup, spring School Symposium on Connecting Health with Learning and other events)
